Michael Raffaele

At a recent poetry reading, Mike Raffaele was introduced as “a guy who doesn’t try to copy the beats; he just gets it.” Eccentrically sane, rambling to the point, his work pushes a raw aesthetic that is entertaining as it is disconcerting. Raffaele can be seen regularly at the Mercury CafĂ©- where he performs his growing volume of work with a unique blend of sarcasm, intelligence, and often times over-the-top dramatization that explores sociopolitical issues that have taxi cabbed him to the edge of insanity. This past summer he published his first chapbook, Dreams Pass Through Denver. His second book, Redefining the Serious, is slated to come out early next year- provided he has enough money.

He is also of the mind that the third person doesn’t really exist; the ego simply speaks in the first person.
